Models
Trae provides a series of outstanding models in the industry. You can easily switch between different models for use. In addition, Trae supports adding custom models through your own API keys so as to better meet your personalized needs.
Built-in models
TRAE provides the following built-in models:

Note: Claude-4-Sonnet (Beta), Claude-3.7-Sonnet, and Claude-3.5-Sonnet are not available in Hong Kong SAR (China) or Macao SAR (China).
Different subscription plans offer varying levels of access to model usage. For more information, refer to "Plans & billing".
Switch models
At the bottom right of the input box, click the name of the current model to open the model list, then select the model you want to use from the list. Each model has its own capabilities, you can hover the cursor on a model name to check out the capabilities that model supports.
Add custom models
If you want to use models other than the preset ones or want to use your own model resources, you can connect to your own model resources or other third-party model providers using API keys.
At the top right of the side chat box, click Settings icon > Models.
The Models window appears.
Click the + Add Model button.
The Add Model pop-up appears.
Select a Provider from Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Kimi-CN, Kimi-Global, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Volcano Engine, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Gitee, SiliconFlow, PPIO, Novita, and BytePlus.
Select a Model from the list.
- Directly select from the list of preset models that Trae provides for each provider; these models are all default versions.
- If you want to use other models or a specific version of a model, click Other Models and enter the model's ID in the input box.
Enter the API Key.
Note: If you want to manage your API keys on the provider's platform, you can click Get API Key, and Trae will open the corresponding API key configuration page of that provider.
Click the Add Model button.
Trae calls the provider's API to check if the API key you enter is valid. The possible results are as follows:
- If the connection is successful, the custom model will be added.
- If the connection fails, the Add Model window will display an error message along with the error log returned by the provider. You can refer to this information for troubleshooting.
Manage custom models
In the Models window, you can manage your custom modes.

| 1 | Edit a model | Click the Edit icon and edit the provider, model name, API key, and more other information in the pop-up window. |
| 2 | Delete a model | Click the Delete icon and confirm this deletion in the pop-up window. Once a model is deleted, it will be removed from the list and thus no longer available. |
| 3 | Enable/disable a model | If you do not want to delete a model but do not need to use it for a period of time, you can disable the model. The disabled model will remain in the list on the settings page but will not appear in the model selection list in the AI chat box. |
